The Városi Könyvtár (Town Library) is a common library with general topic collector status that ensures secondary librarian services for everybody. While collecting the stock the followings were took into consideration: demands of the readers, work, learning, education, self-education, hobbies and special needs rooted in the state of the town. Methodical building of the stock can only be made by guaranteed financial sources. The organisation of the actual stock:

We closed our alphabetical ordered catalogue at 31. Dec. 1999 and we started to make a computerised list of the whole stock. You can find each document of the inventory in our database in the integrated system of TEXTLIB and you can borrow them via computer by their barcode. The books are developed by content and form and they are searchable. Temporarily you can search our periodicals, audio and digital documents, VHS’s and DVD’s only by their title.

You can find 110 periodicals in our library. We are trying to provide you not only with the daily papers, but with the weeklies in demand and the important technical periodicals of each science. Technical periodicals are the appliance of information. The class of periodicals of the recent years are important part of the library. They are accessible in binded books or in CD’s. Because of the lack of space in the library we prefer CD form to paper.

We continually retain:

Papers and periodicals of Local Knowledge:

Librarian technical papers:

Other technical papers:

We only retain all the other newspapers and periodicals just to the end of the present year.

Depending on the budget we purchase classical music casettes and CD-s if they are in demand. We purchase light music recordings by „pick and choose” way. We are collecting literary and fairy tales records, folklore records and the audio documents recording the events happened in the life of the library (Kagylózene, Who is Hungarian etc.), audio documents helping to learn foreign languages, audiobooks.

Video recording purhased up to now: fiction films to adults and to children and some classical box-office success. We continually turning to purchase DVD’s of films of great worth or theatrical recordings. We are also choosing from electronic documents (CD-Lawstore, CdD-ROMs).

European Union’s Special Collection: We are extending the so-called EU-corner collection (book, VD, video, etc.) from applications, from the budget and from donations.

Sources of acqusition:

Purhasement: We tie down part of the financial materials for purchasement of librarian documents with KELLO Kht. by contract, and we buy from other publishers and bookstores from the other part of the money.

Donations: More and more private person donates his periodicals and books to us.

Applications: We are trying to apply to every relevant application.
